DigitalRune Physics Bundle Updated: Avatar Ragdolls, Vehicle Physics and more…

An new update for the DigitalRune Physics Bundle has been released. The DigitalRune Physics Bundle offers mathematics, collision detection and game physics for 3D games and simulations using the Microsoft .NET Framework or Microsoft XNA Game Studio 4.0. The library supports Windows, Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7.

The new version adds performance improvements, bugfixes, as well as exciting new features:

NEW: Improved character controllers

A character controller lets the player character navigate through virtual terrain. It automatically handles collisions with walls or dynamic objects, gravity, jumping, crawling, stepping up/down/over objects, walking on slopes, and more. The new implementation improves interaction with other objects: Dynamic objects are pushed more naturally, walking on kinematic objects, such as moving platforms or conveyors, is handled automatically.

NEW: Vehicle Physics

The new vehicle physics allows to simulate cars and other vehicles. Wheel configurations, suspension and friction properties can be altered to model different vehicles and driving behaviors.

NEW: 3D ragdoll physics for Xbox LIVE® Avatars!

DigitalRune Physics is the first solution to deliver 3D ragdoll physics for Xbox LIVE Avatars. The ragdoll physics can be used with all Xbox LIVE Avatars - no manual configuration required. It is basically just one easy to use class that can be used in place of any standard avatar animation. In addition, the class can automatically blend between predefined and physics-based animations.

The new modules can be used out-of-the-box. However, some applications may require additional customization. Therefore, the DigitalRune Physics Bundle grants free access to the source code of the character controller, vehicle physics and Xbox LIVE Avatar ragdolls.
(Note: The source code is not included in the trial download or the free non-commercial version of the software.)

Change History

…
