Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How many licenses do I need?

Licenses are sold per-developer. You need one license for each developer who compiles code that directly or indirectly requires our libraries.

Example: A team of 3 developers is writing a game that uses DigitalRune Physics. Only 1 developer does the physics-related work. – All 3 developers must have a license. This is true even if all the physics code is contained in a separate project.

We have license packages for more developers that give you significant volume discounts.

Can I install the DigitalRune software libraries/products on more than one machine?

Yes. You may install the software on multiple machines, including a build server, as long as you have a license for each person that works with the software.

Can I distribute products that use a DigitalRune software library?

Yes, but you may only redistribute files that are listed as redistributable, see Licensing and Redistribution (section "Redistributable Components"). Other components must not be redistributed. Especially following information and files must NOT be redistributed or made public: license keys/serial numbers, source code.

Are there any royalties, runtime fees or distribution fees?

No. For end-user applications, including web applications, there are no royalties and you are free to distribute an unlimited number of copies.

Can I redistribute the DigitalRune software libraries as part of an SDK or code library?

No, not with the standard license. Redistributing the software as part of an SDK or code library is not covered by the standard license because such a product directly or indirectly competes with our libraries. If you intend to create an SDK or code library using our software libraries, then please contact us for more information.

Do you offer special licenses for independent developers?

Yes, we do. Click here to see special offers for indie developers.

What about non-commercial or academic use of DigitalRune software libraries and products?

Some products can be used for free for non-commercial projects or academic use. Click here for a free non-commercial license.

Can I license the source code?

For some products source code licenses are available in the web shop (e.g. for DigitalRune Docking Windows). For all other product source code licenses are available on request.

Licensing a third-party software library is a serious money and time investment. We think it is important that our clients can license our source code to adapt the library to their specific needs, as well as to minimize their risk and dependence.

My trial period has expired but I need more time to test the software?
